Medical underwriting in the Medicare Supplement industry generally consists of “knock out” questions regarding medical history. While underwriting may protect against excessive anti-selection, carriers may be able to optimize the balance between minimal screening of conditions and very rigorous screening that eliminates all but condition-free applicants.
